Sophia Thorsen joins MVP as a Senior Teacher.
Sophia enjoys a hands-on approach to her teaching. Her main goal is to give each of her clients a better understanding of how their unique body works and the skills they will need to take ownership of their physical, mental and spiritual well-being, all the while providing them with a rigorous and challenging workout.
Sophia has worked with athletes, dancers, prenatal and postpartum clients, those rehabilitating from injuries, as well as people with chronic conditions such as Parkinson’s and scoliosis. This has given her a deep well of knowledge to draw from. While her training and foundation are classical, Sophia remains fluid and open to the many variations of the Pilates Method, in order to meet each client as an individual.

Sophia graduated from the Advanced Teacher Training Program at The Pilates Center in Boulder, CO in 2001. Over the years, Sophia has found a great deal of inspiration from a variety of continuing education workshops taught by Amy Alpers, Rachel Segel, Debra Kolwey, Leah Wecksler, Kim Haroche, Cara Reeser, Amy Lange, Mimi Berger and Dean Juhan. Sophia has also furthered her understanding of the Method by completing The Pilates Center Masters Program and the yearlong Balanced Body Mentorship Program with Amy Alpers.
In her free time, Sophia enjoys exploring the hiking trails throughout the Bay Area, traveling to far-off places with her husband and two daughters, as well as a number of artistic pursuits, including costume design and glasswork.
